October in Trevi

The month of October is an ideal month to visit Trevi. During the whole month there are many reasons to chose Trevi: first of all the opening of the three taverns (Castello, Matiggia and Piano), lovely, characteristic places which can be reached crossing squares, alleys, courtyards lit only with torches, which bring us back to an ancient atmosphere of great charm and warmth.

Historic pageants are staged and competitions between boroughs (Palio dei Terzieri) and a wonderful Antique Market (Scenes of Medieval Life) with the participation of a large part of the Trevi and environs population greeting the visitors in costume, scattered in the various districts of the city evoking scenes of medieval life and crafts.

Farmers's market

Every fourth Sunday of the month a Farmer’s Market is held in Trevi: one can buy vegetables, legumes, potatoes, cheese, fruit, aromatic herbs, honey, olive oil, jams and many other products (depending on the season) directly from the local producers.

The scope of this Farmer’s Market, the first in Umbria, held every month, is to promote a direct relationship between the producer and the consumer with obvious economic implications. The initiative is also linked to the “O kilometres Menu”, i.e. the local restaurateurs’ proposal to offer original menus which , in the course of the day, short distances between the producer and the consumer also at the table and not only when shopping.

One can thus find in Trevi’s restaurants the tastiest dishes made only with local products: vegetables from Trevi’s “Canapine”, cheeses from the Morella farm, meats from the Fratelli Bartolini farm, bread from the St.Emilian bakery, etc.

A different outing in the beautiful city of Trevi admiring the beautiful view from above of the luscious countryside, mother of these delicious foods, on a Sunday morning to shop for healthy, genuine products, still soiled with earth, this earth… a chat with the farmer, a way to become acquainted with this territory in a different manner, penetrating it through its people, people who continue to live the land and have maintained the perseverance and the satisfaction of working their land.

On the third weekend of October

Black celery and the sausage festival

The Black Celery Fair takes place every year in October, on the third Sunday of the month. The town’s main square, Piazza Mazzini, fills with wooden crates laden with celery with the whitest stalks and greenest foliage brought by the "Sedanari" (celery growers) waiting for the challenge: each producer exhibits the best examples in the hope of winning the First Prize.

Since autumn with its first cold has been, from time immemorial, the ideal season for slaughtering pigs for the production of the much appreciated sausages and “mazzafegati”, on that same Sunday the local butchers meet in the town square bringing with them their delicious products. The Celery Fair is therefore combined with the Sausage Fair.
